Essential Twin Baby Products By Month: Newborn To 6 Months
The moment you find our you’re pregnant, after all of the celebrations, hugs and family reveals are over, you may begin to think about all of the new purchases you’ll have to make to support this new bundle of joy.
While babies are adorable, exciting and absolute precious gifts in this world, knowing what you need to support the child can be less so.
In this article, we’ll outline only the essential items you need to purchase for your twins to make sure they’re safe, comfortable and taken care of – without going over budget.

Newborn
When your twins are first born, the majority of their time will be spent eating and sleeping. Feeding times come like clockwork every three hours, diaper changes are just as frequent to protect their fragile little bottoms and they sleep in between those precious bonding moments.
Infant Car Seats
Car seats should be one of your first purchases, or first one of the first items you add to your baby shower gift list. They’re especially essential because they hospital will not allow you to leave with your children without those infant car seats. You must be able to provide for the babies safe transport from the hospital to your home.
When you have twins, you’ll need one car seat for each child.
Pro tip: We needed tons of help getting our car seats installed for our twins because we hadn’t had the car seats with the base that locks into the back seat before.
Diaper Bag
The diaper bag will hold all the necessary items for baby for every single trip you’ll have with them. When looking for a great twin diaper bag, look for a insulated pocket that will hole at least two bottles for both babies. The larger inside portion of the bag should be large enough to carry multiples of everything you’ll need to keep baby comfortable for hours.
We especially love diaper bags with several pockets on the inside for pacifiers, extra bottle nipples and the smaller items that could get lost easily in the larger inside pocket.
Baby Monitor
If the twins will sleep in the same room as you the baby monitor is not an essential item.
However, the baby monitor is a must have if you plan to have your twins in a separate room. A good baby monitor will allow you to both hear and see your baby even when they lights are out and it’s pitch black in the room. This will give you some personal space from your baby without feeling the constant need to look at them every moment.

Baby Carrier
Whether you purchase two carriers or one highly depends on your preference. There are twin baby carriers that will allow a single parent to carry both babies at one time – one in the back and one in the front. Others will only support one child and will require both parents to take both babies on a trip of out the home.
We love baby carriers because you get the benefit of taking your baby out while still having your hands free and providing less strain on your back.
Bassinets
There are a wide variety of bassinets you can get for your child – some are simple while others play music, vibrate or rock baby to sleep. We preferred a simple bassinet to lay the child in.
Changing Table
While I’ve seen my grandmother lay the baby across her lap to change a poopy diaper with expert precision, I have personally always loved the height and safety of a changing table. You have a station where you can hold all of the baby butt essentials: diapers, wipes, petroleum jelly and diaper cream.
The height is perfect to change a diaper without having to bend too far down uncomfortably and

3 Months
Around three months, you’ll notice your babies are interacting with you and with the world more. They’re becoming more aware of their surroundings and the people in it.
Baby Swing
A baby swing is perfect around this time where you have a slightly bigger gap between when you need to feed baby and nap times. The swings will give you another modality to introduce your child to in between feedings, diaper changes and tummy times.
We also preferred baby lounges during this time for feeding and relaxing, but I would consider these nice to haves.

6 Months
By this time your baby should start to have that chunky baby look and feel we all know and love. They’re holding up their little heads with confidence and starting to sit up. They may even be ready to try eating a few table foods. This is when you’ll need to make new purchases to support their growth.
Double Strollers
It’ll be time to upgrade to the double stroller as soon as your babies can hold their necks up comfortably and they’re starting to outgrow their infant car seats (and you’re tired of picking them up in the baby carriers).
Baby Bouncers / Walkers
Some parents swear by their baby bouncer or walker. Honestly, they can be lifesaver when you have two babies crying and only one pair of hands to soothe them. However, we’ve noticed that sometimes babies will like or dislike a bouncer or walker and there’s no way of telling upfront what baby will prefer.

High Chair
While we love putting our babies in a high chair once they start feeding, this purchase could be considered a “nice to have” in the baby feeding process. We could comfortably feed our babies on the couch or in their car seats as soon as the babies starting sitting upright on their own.
The high chair benefits both baby and parent. The parent will be able to feed the children without bending over or sitting on the floor to feed them. The child will also have their own space and a little table where they can practice picking up their own spoon as they explore new foods.
Crib
If you purchases a bassinet for your newborn, you’ll start to notice around this time that they’re starting to fill out the entire space. That means it’s time to upgrade to a crib.
We notice our babies liked to snuggle up against the sides of the bassinets and seemed to stay awake, unable to find that comfortable space to sleep inside the larger crib. So, we purchased a crib liner to line in inside of the crib with a soft mesh so my little babies could continue to snuggle up on the side of the crib without hitting the wooden panels.
